Do your research before walking away or walking into a new opportunity.
LeapIT spends a significant amount of time presenting job requirements to Candidates along with the overall history and vision of our hiring clients. Every company is unique, and no job is a plug and play nor the mere swap of a logo and communications system. In this hyper competitive “Employer” market, its important to do your research and to understand the opportunities of a specific sector/ sectors as well as the people leading the organisation with their Investors and stakeholders. Whilst entertaining the possibility of a new role is indeed about you; take a few steps back and look beyond the current position being offered and its corresponding package.
Groups hiring for eCommerce, Cybersecurity, Digital Media, Healthcare, Medtech, Wellness, Digital Assets Transacting and eLearning are not only trending, they are becoming their very own layer of life’s Critical Infrastructure. We are certain Abraham Maslow would agree our basic needs have evolved and these sectors noted above all do their part to respond.
We ask our vetted Candidates who are invited into the Rapid Hiring Model (RHM) powered by SCOPE to do some homework before making any decisions. Some considerations of understanding are below:
Logically analyse the potential for a company to achieve success and what is that definition of success to the hiring company? Inclusive of “if this then this,” what is the exit plan of the company? What is an exit plan? Will the group sell in the near or distant future? Will they acquire? Will they go public? These are all valid questions to ask the hiring company to understand the value of your overall package. In addition, the answers will support comprehension of company energy and path. Is the growth plan of the company clearly presented and does it fit in your trajectory? If so, move to the next step.
Who are the current partners? Have you checked recent press releases and third-party coverage? Does the hiring company have momentum? Are they actively involved in educating via various forms of content? Unless the hiring company is deploying technology requiring Security Clearance or a Financial Markets or Healthcare regulated firm where solicitation needs to be cleared by regulatory bodies, there should be some easy to find materials on your Search Engine of choice or by asking around. Do not forget that aligning with publicly traded companies and big logo strategic partners takes a long amount of time and in-depth due diligence along with an army of Legal teams to approve. Is your hiring company partnered with something similar? If so and this top level of due diligence is appealing, move to the next step.
Do you understand the value of the company assets? Sometimes when in process of considering a new job things can get fuzzy and it’s hard to understand the overall “big picture.” Are there unique assets such as physical (real estate) and or technology (IP) this group owns that can be applied to the new world of leading sectors mentioned above? Think hard as strategic leaders will pivot to respond to the environment with current assets and they have a nice chance of success if the assets have already been in use. After discovery of this step, if you’re excited about this new opportunity we are too at LeapIT.
What would you do when presented with a specific challenge and how would you seek to solve it? (A LeapIT company favourite from one of our leading client Executives and strong alliance.)
The response to this inquiry never ceases to amaze us. Some people can immediately respond and action problem solving with ideas and enthusiasm. Others, including Candidates who are near employment royalty on paper, remain silent. A close alliance absolutely loves this step as it indicates a level of not only experience but creativity and the ability to execute and take a chance. If you are silent, you probably have not done your homework. LeapIT will ask you to start over again which means in this Employer driven market, you could lose a spot at a great company.
